An Uneducated Woman

There is one other repressive thing that puzzles me more than RACE. And that is, the desire to have an uneducated woman as a wife.

What value is there in having a woman who takes the money that you’ve labored all week to earn and squanders it, not foolishly, but ignorantly, leaving your children hungry and your home unfit and uncomfortably to live in.

And you say, it is because other men will want the wonderful woman that I have.

What value is there in having a woman who can not teach your children to read or write and who knows not a single letter of the holy Quran.

And you say, it is because other men will want the wonderful woman that I have.

What value is there in having a woman who can not help you when you are sick and unable to provide. Who lets you lie on your filthy death bed because she doesn’t know to boil water and cleanse your wounds or the right herbs to use to ease your pains or for that matter, her own.

And you say, it is because other men will want the wonderful woman that I have.

I, this educated woman, say it is because you yourself are uneducated.

But as one wise man once said, ‘In all thy getting, get thee some understanding.’

An understanding of the world, in which you live, is more valuable than gold.  An understanding of the world can lift you out of poverty.  An understanding of the world can give you a good and respected name.  An understanding of the world is what separates Kings from ordinary men.    What king desires and uneducated woman as queen?
