I Know. Let’s Raise Taxes

Illinois Budget

This morning before leaving the house, I had my mind made up to write a scathing post about how the Illinois General Assembly has only one pat answer for everything and that’s …

I think the members of the Illinois General Assembly need a course in basic finance, sometimes called, ‘how to balance a check book?

Most people – the ones the General assembly wants to raise taxes on – have only four options when balancing their checkbook.
1. Don’t. Ignore the shortfall and hope it will correct itself
2. Get a second job
3. Stop spending so much
4. Get on the phone and beg their parents, in-laws, or friends for money.

But I have an even better idea.

Why don’t we, as Illinois citizens, lower the number of state representatives, congressmen and women, lobbyist, etc. that we send to Springfield.   After all, how many of them do we need to say, “I know. Let’s raise taxes.” Only 3. One to vote, yes. One to vote, no. And one to stall for three years.

Each Illinois household would pay an additional $1,125 in taxes each year, on average, under the Senate’s tax-hike plan.
