Tonight, Friday April 20, 2018 Diane Sawyer will tackle the other side of that double-edged sword, sexual harassment.
Her special entitled, ‘My Reality, covers sexual harassment from the working class side. I’m going to be sitting right in front of my TV with a strong drink in one hand and a box of tissues in the other because for 42 years I was right where all these women are.
I was right there having to choose between putting up the constant harang, catcalling, and sexual harassment or paying the rent and keeping food on the table. And since my stalkers had everyone convinced that I was the worst thing since the Devil incarnate, I had nowhere to go.
I know what it’s like to be afraid. I know what tastes like in your, feels like in your stomach, and what it can do to you. And I know that constant question that’s always in the back of your mind, “What did I do to deserve this?
So, I’d like to encourage Maywood Police, Chief Vladimir Talley, Maywood Mayor Edwenna Perkins, Congressman Danny K. Davis, Senator Dick Durbin, State Representative Chris Welch, Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Fox, Rush University’s CEO Dr. Larry Goodman and all my former coworkers at Rush to stop and take an hour tonight and watch this program because a woman can’t always just pick up a phone can call the police. You should know that!
PS I’ve been gone from Rush for 9 months and Ms. Sawyer’s promo says that it’s been 7 months since the #MeToo and #TimesUp movement exploded. That’s not a bad start for someone most people considered a dummy because she didn’t know enough to pick up the phone and call the cops to report being stalked and harassed. Not bad at all.
