Vision, Purpose, and Goals

Bishop T. D. Jakes’ Vision, Purpose, and Goals

I hadn’t done a post with Bishop T.D. Jakes in a while, but two weeks ago, I kept getting the answer, ‘T.D. Jakes’.

What was the question?  God I need help finishing my latest book.  It is s o o o o o late.

I’m glad I listened because, as a writer, I found this tag team lecture and sermon both relevant and inspiring.

I listened to it twice and I realized that the problem was that I had lost focus.  I’d lost focus, not because the book wasn’t interesting but because it was hitting to close to what was happening in real life.  And as a writer, you don’t want your readers to think that you’re just re-hashing the local News.  So, I put the book down – not once, – not twice, but three times.

This lecture/sermon inspire me to:

a.  Put a new tagline (trailer) on both my websites (https://elizabooks.com  and https://elizaebooks.wordpress.com)

elizabooks is well written easy to read contemporary fiction.  No flowery prose.  No stopping your reading experience every five minutes to pick up  a dictionary.   Just well written fiction using everyday words.

b.  to outline and re-write the last 15 chapters of https://24thehuntforrednovember.wordpress.com

Enjoy and be inspired!

When There’s Blood In The Streets

what terrorism does

I was about to write a post on, Selective Hearing, but before I do  that I’d like to share with you a quote I heard a long time ago but didn’t understand the significance under recently.

And that quote paraphrased a quote by 18th Baron Rothschild.  The good old  – or insightful – Baron Rothschild said, “The time to buy is when there’s blood in the streets.”

Baron Rothschild, an 18th century British nobleman and member of the Rothschild banking family, is credited with saying that “The time to buy is when there’s blood in the streets.” He should know. Rothschild made a fortune buying in the panic that followed the Battle of Waterloo against Napoleon.

The paraphrase that caught my attention was, “When there’s blood in the streets, there’s money to be made.”

At the time I heard it, I thought that’s ridiculous.  If there’s blood in the streets, no one will be out in the streets.  The sensible people will be  at home.

Duh!

Behind, door locks, door jams, and high end surveillance equipment.

And, If I owned a glass company, I’d be out there hawking my ass off selling bullet proof glass that can be installed in cars and homes!

Or Kevlar car door siding that clips on and off. (Chicago has a lot of Expressway shootings!)

Or double strength steel fence inter lays that can be installed over your existing wrought iron or steel fencing.

And, if you’ve got a gang member in your household, why not insure him or her for as little as $20.00 a month.  (Insurer cannot claim full amount of policy until 2 years of payments have been made.)

And now, you can arrest more people and put more people in jail and make a fortune selling them stuff like, books, magazines, snacks, drinks, toothache medicine, Kotex, INSAIDS, etc.

“When there’s blood in the streets, there’s money to be made.”  Now I understand.

Watch yourself President Trump.  By putting troops on the ground in Chicago, you might just be messing with someone’s money.  And you don’t mess with Chicago people’s money.  Take that piece of advice from someone’s who’s been publicly stalked and humiliated for more than 25 years but has only made the News once in Chicago.

The only thing Andrew Holmes did was try and stop the violence and he paid dearly for that.

The Free State of Jones is Ruby Sanders

Matthew McConaughey in The Free State of Jones

It was a slow day at work and I was toiling away on the ending (one that my readers won’t hate, hopefully) of the new ebook, ‘Jared Anderson,’ and to give myself some inspiration, I decided to look at some Matthew McConaughey photos.

And guess what I came across.  Yes, that’s right a picture of Matthew McConaughey dressed as a Confederate soldier for should I say, deserter, in the new film, The Free State of Jones.

Matthew’s character plays a Civil War deserter who marries a black slave girl.  I wonder where, Gary Ross, the films director and ‘writer’ got that idea.  Could it possibly have been a Best Selling ebook by the name of Ruby Sanders and it’s sequel, Jared Anderson.

Of course, neither that ebook or my name are anywhere on the credits for the films.  Just as they were never mention on the film, ‘Flight.’ aka, Flight 404 staring Denzel Washington.

My question is, what does a girl have to do to get credit for her work?  Frustrated unpaid writer.

PS  I’m sure either OneThreeThirteen or Dancing With The Fat Woman are going into production somewhere in Hollywood under another writer’s name, perhaps John Gatins.

Windy City Live and $18,000.00 a Year

This morning, I was sitting on the end of the bed watching Windy City Live while getting dressed for work and almost fell off the bed when I heard Val Warner say that you can’t live comfortably on $18,000.00 a year.

She, Ryan, and Ji were discussing a story about a young man and his wife who retired at the age of thirty and were raising their son on $18,000.00 a year.

I watched as Val wrinkled up her nose and shook her head at the thought of living on $18,000.00.  Now don’t get me wrong, I love Val Warner and Windy City Live, but Val Warner there are hundreds of thousands of Chicagoans living, working, and raising more than one child on $18,000.00 a year.

And I do believe, we have just raised the minimum wage in the state of Illinois to $10.00 an hour which, if a person worked 40 hours a week would come up to about $18,000.00.

And just so you know, most of those same workers who had their salaries raised to $10.00 an hour also had their hours cut.

Comfortable to me means a roof over our heads, a clean home, food on the table, clean clothes on our backs, and a reliable car to get us back and forth.  Movie night means renting a movie from Redbox or the local library and dinner out is Chili’s or Applebees and Red Lobster for really special occasions.  Clothes shopping is done at Marshalls, Target, and Burlington’s and there are no designer shoes in our closets but isn’t that what got Mrs. Blagojevich in trouble with the media and then her husband investigated?

And Val, have you heard about retiring on Social Security?  I’m sure most of your viewing audience is made up of retirees living on Social Security that pays abouth $18,000.00 a year or LESS.

I say all of this to say, ‘comfortable’ is a state of mind, or, like beauty, relative to those observing it.

And if you’re listening Windy City Live, there’s a show in there.  Why not find a family that is living comfortably on $18,000.00 and find out how they’re doing so.

SNOW

Snow. It’s a four letter word that most of us northerners are grudgingly familiar with. But something occurred to me this winter that sounds like a wild absurd and totally ridiculous idea.

Why not harvest snow. Yes, I said harvest snow. We have too much of it, especially Boston, while other areas of the country are suffering from a lack of it.

Why not have specially designed trucks that scoop up the snow while it’s in pristine condition, before it becomes all dirty and polluted, store it in refrigerated rail cars or trucks and then ship it to places like New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Southern California. They need our snow and we’re just letting it go to waste and ruin on the side of the road.

Snow, it’s untapped white gold. Someday, someone will figure out how to use snow effectively. God has already done the hard part, he put it in a transportable form.
